The questions people actually ask, answered the way we would answer them on a call.

MCAT tutoring

How the tutoring actually works

How does a tutoring session work?

It is one-on-one and live, over Zoom or Google Meet. Before your first session your tutor emails you for your current practice score, your target, your test date, your weakest sections, and how many hours a week you can study, so you start with a plan rather than an introduction.

In the session you work practice questions in your weakest area while your tutor walks through their thinking out loud and asks you to say yours. Every question you miss gets diagnosed as a content gap, a reasoning error, or a test-taking strategy problem, because each one is fixed differently. You leave with specific practice to do before the next session.

Who is tutoring me?

An MCAT content tutor who scored well on this exam recently enough to remember it. Our tutor average right now is a 516.

What comes with my hours?

Session notes after every session. Blocks of 10 hours and up add a written study plan within 48 hours of your first session, an AAMC prep schedule, and Score Analysis Sessions: one with 10 hours, two with 20, three with 30, and four with 40. The 40 hour block also includes priority scheduling.

What is a Score Analysis Session?

A 30 minute live session with an advisor built around your data: your practice percentages by section, your practice test scores, and your timing. Each weakness is named as a content gap, a reasoning error, or a stamina and timing issue, and you leave with no more than three priorities, each with concrete tasks, measured against your last review.

You book these yourself in Setmore. For bundled clients, we recommend scheduling one after each ten hours.

How many hours should I do in a week?

We suggest no more than five tutoring hours a week, so buy the block that fits the weeks you have left before your test.

How do I book my next session?

In Setmore. Your tutor will have you book it before the call ends, so there is never a gap in the plan.

How are my hours counted?

Against the scheduled length of each session, in fifteen minute increments. Every session is logged the same day it happens.

If a logged hour looks wrong, you have seven days from the session to tell us. Email admin@philippiansconsulting.com rather than your tutor, and we will look at it with the session notes.

How long do my hours last?

Twelve months from purchase. If your test date moves, your hours move with it.

Lateness and live sessions

Timing, lateness, and interruptions

What happens if I am late?

Your session still ends at its scheduled time, and the full scheduled length comes off your hours. If you have not joined within fifteen minutes and have not contacted us, the session is logged as a no-show, so if you are running late, tell us.

What happens if my tutor or advisor is late?

If they are less than fifteen minutes late, you still get your full session: they extend past the original end time. If you cannot stay past it, the time you missed goes back on your balance in fifteen minute increments.

If they are more than fifteen minutes late, or do not show, your full session is restored at no cost and your makeup session includes thirty extra minutes, on us. Let us know within seven days.

What if the call drops?

If a session is cut short by a technical failure on our side and cannot be picked back up, the time you did not get is restored to your balance in fifteen minute increments. The full policy is in our Terms.

Can a session run over?

Up to fifteen minutes over is on us, and not billed to you.

To go longer than that, just authorize it in writing: a reply email from the address on your purchase is enough. Once you do, the extra time is added and logged like any other session time.

Can sessions be recorded?

Only with the written consent of both you and your tutor or advisor beforehand. For mock interviews we encourage you to record yourself on your own device, because watching yourself answer is one of the most useful things you can do. Interview Immersion is recorded and transcribed with your consent at purchase, because the transcript analysis is the product.

How we work

The work itself

Who is actually doing the work?

Philippians medical school advisors, each cleared for the services they deliver and held to a written standard. Mock interviews at the Professional tier are run by an advisor who has served on an admissions committee and scored real applicants, and we tell you where that credential applies.

Will you help me make my essays stronger?

Yes, and how much depends on the service. On an audit we show you exactly what is working and what to fix, with the reason on every mark, and you keep the pen. Cosmos goes all the way: we run the interviews, choose your angle with you, and work the drafts alongside you until the primary is as strong as it can be.

What is the three-color annotation?

The standard we use on every audit, so any Philippians deliverable reads the same way. Red must change before you submit. Yellow is worth reconsidering. Green is working and worth protecting. Every red mark carries a comment explaining why, and a legend sits at the top of every document.

Where do mock interview questions come from?

Your own application. You send your submitted AMCAS 48 hours ahead, and your interviewer builds 8 to 12 questions from what is actually in it. Within 48 hours of the interview you get a rubric scored across six dimensions and your three most important fixes, in order.

Guardian Angel

Our most powerful service

Which Guardian Angel tier do I need?

It depends on where you are in the cycle. More than a year out is Vision. Choosing schools is Pre-AMCAS. Already submitted is Post-AMCAS. Doing the whole cycle with us is Comprehensive, and Interview Immersion is for when the invitations arrive. See all four tiers.

Who decides what goes in a Guardian Angel report?

A person does. The analysis is AI-assisted, and an executive-level Philippians member reviews, corrects and signs every report by hand before it reaches you.

Money

Paying and using what you buy

Can I pay in installments?

Klarna is offered at checkout on larger purchases, subject to their approval and your country. Everything else is paid upfront.

How long do I have to use what I bought?

Twelve months from purchase. A secondary audit bought on its own gives you three submission batches within 60 days, so you can send essays as they arrive. Covenant and Covenant Complete clients have until 31 October of the cycle they bought for.

What if I go over a word cap on secondaries?

We reach out before doing anything. Any words past your tier's cap are billed at 40 cents per word, so nothing gets dropped and nothing is a surprise.
